Why is PRP so fantastic for your skin?

What are the benefits of PRP?

  1. All organic, your own blood product, nothing artificial added

  2. Stimulates collagen to fill in volume loss

  3. Stimulates elastin to tighten

  4. Microneedling breaks up lines and scar tissue

  5. Exfoliating causing cell turnover for brighter fresher skin

  6. Reduces pigmentation, red and brown spots

  7. Resurfaces for smoother softer skin

Are there any studies about PRP?

In the 1970s, researchers made a groundbreaking discovery regarding the regenerative potential of platelets. Several years later physicians began using PRP to reduce blood loss during maxillofacial surgery, periodontal surgery, and cosmetic surgery. As time went on, PRP expanded into orthopedics, proving to boost healing in fractures and bone grafts.

The use of PRP gained widespread popularity when professional golfer Tiger Woods admitted to undergoing the treatment just before his comeback in 2010. This led to a flood of articles explaining the procedure and its benefits, and more athletes announced that they, too, underwent PRP therapy. This includes high-profile athletes such as the late Kobe Bryant, Stephen Curry, Garrett Richards, and Reggie Jackson.

In 2019, a systematic review of 132 papers and 11 articles on PRP as a treatment for hair loss was conducted. The study concluded that subcutaneous injection of PRP is likely to reduce hair loss, and increase hair diameter and density in patients with androgenic alopecia.

Now, PRP therapy is used in a number of cosmetic and aesthetic procedures to restore a youthful appearance.

Aesthetic Use

In recent years, PRP has been used for aesthetic purposes like facials. One study found PRP injections rejuvenated the skin in the lower eye region, while another discovered PRP promotes “tissue remodeling in aged skin and may be used as an adjuvant treatment to lasers.”

A “reverse aging” result can be found using PRP therapy by restoring layers of collagen, reducing fine lines, wrinkles, stretch marks, and scarring, and tightening of the skin.

Hair Loss

Many studies have demonstrated PRP as an effective treatment for androgenic alopecia, a common hair disorder affecting 45 percent of men and 35 percent of women over the age of 60. Most showed evidence of hair regrowth after three months.

PRP Injections

The top three areas for PRP injections are under the eyes, in the nasolabial folds, and to treat hair loss.

Under the Eyes: Eye bags are generally formed from strain around the eyes which can occur mainly due to lack of sleep, fluid retention, allergies, dermatitis, and/or heredity. The strain in your eyes takes away the blood and nutrients in that area. When PRP is applied, the tissue generates blood and nutrients for its active metabolism and growth to help regain the lost elasticity resulting in a smoother, more youthful appearance.

Nasolabial folds:  PRP can improve the appearance of these because it is a biological stimulator of collagen production. This means that it encourages the renewal and regrowth of one of the components in our skin that have started to diminish.

Hair Loss: If you have thinning hair, the growth factors found within PRP can help stimulate your hair follicle activity to promote new hair growth. PRP injections can help increase hair count, hair thickness, and lengthen the growth phase of the hair cycle. This treatment works well as a prevention measure for continued or early hair loss but works better on those whose hair loss is recent.

PRP WITH MICRONEEDLING

During a microneedling with PRP procedure, the mechanical action of the microneedling pen (I use the SkinPen) creates tiny channels at a specific depth in the skin. This triggers the body’s natural healing to process to fill in the channels by producing new collagen and elastin in the papillary dermis. In addition, new capillaries are formed for improved blood supply. By combining microneedling with PRP, the healing process starts faster and the recovery time is only between 4-6 days.

ARE YOU THE IDEAL CANDIDATE FOR THIS TREATMENT?

According to the Mayo Clinic, microneedling is safe for all skin colors and types.

Since it does not have the heat element that laser treatments have, it will not affect your skin’s pigmentation. People usually respond well to treatments, and it requires minimal recovery time.

At Radiant Woman Aesthetics, I will examine your skin and work with you to help achieve your specific goals. My priority is to provide you with the latest effective treatments, while ensuring a safe environment.
